Vocal Myths

1. To be able to sing, you have to be naturally gifted.
Singing is a skill and as such it can be learned. I’ve had the privilege of teaching numerous people with difficulties hearing and singing on pitch, but with time and commitment we have corrected these issues.

2. I can not sing in higher registers because I have a low voice.
Having lower voice doesn’t mean that you don’t have the ability to sing higher. Maybe you’ve just never experienced that part of your range. I’ll be more than happy to lead you in experiencing the full potential of your voice.

3. Singing is not for me because I am extremely shy.
Confidence comes from competence. When you are in touch with your voice and know how to control it, it can bring out the inner performer in almost anyone. One of my favorite things is to give students the tools to help then overcome insecurities and empower themselves.

4. I don’t like how my voice sounds, that’s why I don’t sing.
Although I cannot change your voice or give you a new one, I sure can teach you how to use what you’ve got in the best way possible. Sometimes too much tension results in an unnatural sound production, but it’s fixable.
Funny thing is, most people don’t like the sound of their voices, so you’re not alone.

5. I am a good singer already and don’t need further training.
Singing is a muscular coordination and with training you can get the most out of your voice giving you more range, stamina and dynamics. Every professional in their field uses a trainer… Even Rocky Balboa had a trainer!

Vocal Technique

Dmitri teaches technique that is applicable to all styles of music. It gives the singer access to all dynamics, with tonal clarity and flexibility. Dmitri’s methods help improve range, endurance, stamina, breath control, resonance, vocal strength and vocal quality across all styles of music without fatigue or damage to the voice. My goal is to see all of my students sing in a free and natural manner, smoothly, from the bottom range to the top with no breaks or sudden changes in quality. We will accomplish these results by training you to find balance between airflow and intrinsic muscular resistance.
